Privacy policy
Last updated October 12, 2026
Copy Chat is a browser extension that copies or downloads the ChatGPT or Claude conversation open in your current tab. This policy explains what it does with your information. In short: it collects nothing.
What Copy Chat accesses
When you click Copy chat, Markdown or JSON, use the right-click menu, or press the keyboard shortcut, Copy Chat reads the conversation in that tab. It gets the conversation from the site you are on (chatgpt.com or claude.ai) using the login you already have there, or reads it from the page.
It does this only when you ask, and only for the conversation in front of you.
What happens to it
The conversation is turned into Markdown or JSON inside your browser and put on your clipboard or saved as a file in your Downloads folder. That is the only place it goes.
What Copy Chat does not do
- It does not send your conversations, or any other data, to the developer or to anyone else.
- It has no server, no account and no analytics or tracking.
- It does not store your conversations, passwords, cookies or login tokens.
- It does not read other websites, your browsing history or your other tabs.
- It does not sell or share data, or use it for advertising.
Settings
Your export choices (such as whether to include thinking steps) are saved with your browser's extension storage. If you use browser sync, your browser syncs them between your own devices. They contain no conversation content.
Permissions
Copy Chat asks for access to chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com and claude.ai to read the conversation you ask it to copy, scripting to work in chat tabs that were already open when it was installed, context menus for the right-click items, and storage for your settings.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page. Copy Chat is open source, so you can read exactly what it does in the source code. Questions can be asked by opening an issue.
